Taking a few minutes to pack your equipment carefully helps protect it in transit. Follow these simple steps before attaching your ShutterXchange shipping label.

The aim is simple: protect each item individually and prevent your equipment from moving inside the parcel. You do not need specialist packaging, but you should use a strong outer box and suitable protective material.

Step by step
How to pack your gear
Follow these steps before sending your equipment to ShutterXchange.

Prepare your gear
Remove loose straps or other detachable items unless they are included as part of your quote. Fit camera body caps and front and rear lens caps where available.
If a cap is unavailable, carefully protect the exposed area without applying adhesive tape directly to the camera or lens.

Wrap each item individually
Wrap cameras, lenses and accessories separately using suitable protective material such as bubble wrap. Make sure vulnerable areas such as screens, lens elements and mounts are well protected.
Do not allow cameras, lenses or accessories to make direct contact with one another inside the parcel.

Use a strong outer box
Choose a sturdy cardboard box that is large enough to leave protective cushioning around the equipment. Do not send valuable camera equipment in its retail or manufacturer box alone.
The original product box can be placed inside a suitable protective outer shipping box.

Stop your gear from moving
Use suitable packing material to fill the space around the wrapped equipment. Pay particular attention to the sides, corners, top and bottom of the box.
Before sealing the parcel, gently move the box. If the contents can shift, add more cushioning.

Seal the box securely
Close the box and use strong parcel tape across the main opening and seams. Make sure the parcel cannot open during normal handling.
Remove or completely cover any old courier labels, barcodes or delivery information.

Attach your shipping label
Once we email your ShutterXchange shipping label, print it and attach it clearly to the outside of the parcel. Follow any additional shipping instructions included in the email.
Keep the barcode flat, visible and unobstructed.

Cameras
- Fit the body cap where available.
- Protect the LCD or screen from pressure and impact.
- Remove loose straps unless included in the quote.
- Wrap the body thoroughly, particularly around corners and controls.
- Do not place loose accessories directly against the camera body.
Lenses
- Fit front and rear lens caps where available.
- Protect both ends of the lens carefully.
- Wrap the lens barrel separately.
- Make sure the lens cannot move within the parcel.
- Never apply adhesive tape directly to exposed glass or lens surfaces.
Sending more than one item?
Wrap every camera, lens and accessory separately. Use suitable cushioning between each item so they cannot touch or collide during transit.
Make sure everything included in your accepted quote is inside the parcel before sealing it.
Avoid these common mistakes

- Do not use the manufacturer's retail box as the only shipping protection.
- Do not allow equipment to move freely inside the parcel.
- Do not apply parcel tape directly to cameras, lenses or lens glass.

- Do not leave old shipping labels visible on the outer box.
