Built around a photographer's buying experience.
ShutterXchange began with a frustration: a lack of choice when buying used cameras and photography equipment. Paul Cusack set out to offer a better buying experience, with fair prices for the person buying and the person selling.
That starts with seeing the individual item you are buying. Our 360-degree photographs let you inspect it from different angles, alongside its condition grade and inspection details.

Paul is a successful serial entrepreneur who has been an avid photographer for several years. His experience as a photographer shaped the idea behind ShutterXchange: more choice and a clearer, more reassuring way to buy and sell used equipment.
The people behind the checks
How we inspect cameras and lenses
Our camera and lens technicians complete six weeks of training covering equipment operation, optics, electronics and condition. The checks depend on the features of the camera or lens being inspected.
Camera checks
- Camera controls, menus, ISO settings and drive modes.
- Sensor, autofocus and shutter operation.
- Image stabilisation, where fitted.
- Electronic viewfinder and LCD screen, where fitted.
- Shutter count where it can be read for the model.
Lens checks
- Internal optical elements and their condition.
- Autofocus and manual focus, including across focal lengths on zoom lenses.
- Zoom and aperture operation, where applicable.
- Lens mount and filter threads.
- Switches and grips.
What happens if an item fails?
Equipment that fails our inspection does not enter our inventory. It is returned to the seller.
